War Memorial Wreath Laying for VJ Day 15 Aug

Added at 11:27 on 11 August 2025

Friday 15th August 2025 will see the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day and effectively the end of World War II. There will be a short wreath laying at the war memorial at 11am that day.

Selkirk Distillery have kindly agreed to produce a limited edition of 50 bottles to commemorate the 44 casualties named on the war memorial. The intention is to launch the gin on Friday 15th August, and a percentage from each bottle be donated to the refurbishment of the WW2 plaque.

Meanwhile, Selkirk War Memorial was entered into the Best Kept War Memorial (BKWM) competition again this year in the category 'Large Town without Gardens'. The competition, run by Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS), saw Selkirk coming first in the Edinburgh Lothian & Borders Area. The War Memorial was subsequently entered into the National judging, with results expected by the end of August. Congratulations to all who have worked hard on restoring and maintaining the memorial to the fallen.
